Salman Khan's "Tiger 3" Poised for a Comeback After Flops; Experts Predict Rs 100 Crore Global Box Office Opening

Salman Khan's Tiger 3 has emerged as a pivotal film for the actor following a series of underperforming movies. Trade experts are forecasting a remarkable global box office opening of Rs 100 crore for the film. While it may not surpass the day-one collections of Shah Rukh Khan's recent releases, such as Jawan with Rs 75 crore and Pathaan with Rs 57 crore, it is expected to make history in the long run.

Salman Khan made his debut in the Hindi film industry 35 years ago with Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989 and has since become one of Bollywood's biggest stars, despite a few misses. Tiger 3, the third installment in the blockbuster Tiger franchise, generated substantial buzz well in advance of its release. Within three days of advance ticket sales, it had sold nearly 3 lakh tickets for over 10,000 showings, raking in over Rs 8 crore.

Tiger 3's release coincides with Diwali, typically considered a quieter day for box office numbers due to the festive celebrations. However, the film's production house, Yash Raj Films, and film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi are confident that this won't significantly impact the film's earnings.

Akshaye Rathi noted that releasing the film on Diwali aligns well with Salman Khan's diverse fanbase, which includes people of all religions. This diverse audience is expected to visit theaters on the holiday, making the day after Diwali, known as Bhai Duj, another advantageous day for the film's business. While releasing on a Monday might have led to a stronger first-day collection, Rathi believes that the Sunday release will result in a more substantial overall lifetime business. Tiger 3 is set to release on over 4500 screens across India.

Reports indicate that over one lakh tickets have already been sold at national cinema chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis for the opening day. The film is also performing well in non-national chains and single-screen theaters, indicating a robust opening for Tiger 3.

Girish Johar, a film trade expert and producer, holds high expectations for Tiger 3, forecasting a global box office opening of Rs 100 crore. He is confident that the film will create cinematic history, given its solo release and favorable factors contributing to its success. Nonetheless, both Rathi and Johar anticipate a relatively slow opening day figure of around Rs 35 crore. Despite falling short of Shah Rukh Khan's recent day-one collections, Rathi believes that Tiger 3 has the potential to achieve similar levels of success in the long run.

Given Salman Khan's box office performance over the last six years, Tiger 3 is a crucial film for him. While a flop may not significantly impact his stardom, a star of his stature is expected to deliver substantial earnings with each film, which in turn supports the exhibition and distribution sectors of the industry.
