Bollywood A-listers Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgan have received notices from the Indian government for their participation in gutka advertisements, despite a ban on endorsing such addictive and harmful products.
The government issued the notices following a court hearing, during which the state lawyer highlighted that the Supreme Court is already investigating the matter. Although the actors featured in these ads several years ago, Akshay Kumar has publicly apologized to his fans for his involvement.
Gutka, a substance made from areca nuts and tobacco, was once widely popular in the subcontinent but is now recognized for causing cancers of the mouth, head, and neck.
